This season the playoff race has been exciting to say the least. From the AFC where there are many teams fighting for only 2 spots, to the NFC where the 5-7 Falcons are the number 4 seed! So as the 2014 season is nearing an end here are my predictions for the playoffs. The AFC wildcard goes to the Chargers and Ravens These two teams are both playing great football and as you can see from week 13 they are very similar teams. First off the Ravens will get in because they have beat good teams (Dolphins, Steelers, ect.), have a proven offense and defense, and are better than the Steelers and Browns. The reason that they are better than the Steelers is because the Steelers choke against bad teams like the Buccaneers and Jets. They are better than Cleveland because the Browns are struggling and are caught in a bunch of 7-6 teams like the Bills and Dolphins. As for the Chargers they are just playing like they did earlier in the season. They are winning and now have a thriving Philip Rivers and a very good Ryan Mathews. For those reasons they will propel themselves over teams like the Dolphins, Steelers, and the Texans and into the 5th and 6th seed. The NFC wildcard goes to the Cardinals and Lions The Cardinals are a surprise but the way Drew Stanton has played, besides the Chief game, and the injuries I could see Seattle taking the Cardinals spot. For the Lions the Packers are the better and hotter team right now and will take the NFC North but with Calvin Johnson looking amazing and Reggie Bush back they can get to the playoffs. The Cowboys could also be in one of those spots but they don't look as good as they did and just knowing the Cowboys they will find a way not to get in the playoffs. My entire playoff picture AFC #1Patriots #2Broncos #3Bengals #4Colts #5Chargers #6Ravens NFC #1Packers #2Seahawks #3Eagles #4Falcons #5Cardinals #6Lions

The first five weeks of the 2014 NFL Season are in the books. Many players have proven valuable for their teams, but here are the best of the best. Philip Rivers, Quarterback, San Diego Chargers Stats- 1,443 passing yards (4th in NFL), 116.3 passer rating (1st in NFL), 12 touchdowns (T-2nd in NFL), 289 yards per game (6th in NFL) 2013 was a great year for Philip Rivers. Now the reigning Most Improved Player has had an even better 2014. Rivers has had his best statistical year thus far, but his leadership has been the best attribute. The Chargers have a 4-1 record, beat the defending Super Bowl champions by nine points, and are tied for the best record in the conference. And that is without a running game for the first four games, with both Ryan Mathews and Danny Woodhead missing time. Rivers has regained chemistry with tight end Antonio Gates (5 TDs). The wins include a 31-0 beating against the Jets, 22-10 victory over Buffalo, a 33-14 rout of Jacksonville, and the 30-21 upset of the Seahawks. DeMarco Murray, Running Back, Dallas Cowboys Stats- 670 rushing yards (1st in NFL), 5.2 yards per carry (3rd in NFL among players with over 50 carries), 37 first downs (1st in NFL), 5 Touchdowns (T-1st in NFL), 134 yards per game (1st in NFL) The expectations for the Cowboys were low going into the season. Now, with a 4-1 record and a team that looks like a playoff contender. A lot of credit goes to third year running back DeMarco Murray. Murray is on pace to break the rushing record and has 100 yards in each of his first five games. He also has five touchdowns in those games, but it would take a historically great season to land Murray the MVP award. For one, he already has FOUR fumbles. Also, coach Jason Garrett says he will limit the carries. J.J. Watt, Defensive End, Houston Texans Stats- 4 sacks, 26 combined tackles, 2 recovered fumbles, 3 touchdowns, 6 passes defensed J.J. Watt has had his best season as a pro this season and that's saying something. He already has as many touchdowns as Calvin Johnson and Adrian Peterson have combined. The former Defensive Rookie of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year had an 80 yard pick-6, a 45-yard fumble return for a touchdown, and a touchdown catch. Watt has helped the Texans race out to a 3-2 record after losing their last 14 games last season. If the sack totals and tackles go up, Watt will be a very strong MVP candidate and a lock for Defensive Player of the Year. Andrew Luck, Quarterback, Indianapolis Colts Stats- 1,617 passing yards (1st in NFL), 100.0 passer rating (7th in NFL), 14 touchdowns (1st in NFL), 323 yards per game (T-1st in NFL) After two losses to the Broncos and Eagles, the Colts have gone on a rampage. Andrew Luck has been brilliant, throwing for over 300 yards in four of five games and 3 or more touchdown passes in three games. In divisional games against Jacksonville and Tennessee, Luck had a 79.1 and 70.9 passer rating, respectively and threw for over 370 yards in both blowouts. The Colts are at the top of the AFC and look like a serious title contender and Luck looks better than he has in his first two seasons. Aaron Rodgers, Quarterback, Green Bay Packers- Stats- 1,155 passing yards (14th in NFL), 114/8 passer rating (2nd in NFL), 12 touchdowns (T-2nd in NFL), 231 yards per game (21st in NFL) The season started out slow for Green Bay with a blowout loss to Seattle and a scare against the New York Jets, but Aaron Rodgers has steadied the offense. The Green Bay offensive attack has been poor this year, but right now Rodgers is on page and could put up great numbers for the next couple weeks. Never count out the 2011 MVP; he could get the offense to explode at any time. Peyton Manning, Denver Broncos- Stats- 1,293 passing yards (8th in NFL), 109.0 passer rating (4th in NFL), 12 touchdowns (T-2nd in NFL), 323 yards per game (T-1st in NFL) Peyton Manning threw his 500th touchdown pass of his career on Sunday, and he has showed this season that he isn't going to slow down. While he isn't having a historically great season, Manning has led the Broncos to a 4-1 record, with the only loss coming in overtime to the Seattle Seahawks. The team is less dependent this year on Manning, but that is even better as Denver is now more balanced than last year.

Now that it is 2014, the 2013 NFL season is having its playoffs. This week the wild card round will be played, with 4 games that will be on during Saturday and Sunday. It already looks wild, as all of the visiting teams are in cities that are two words. Here are my picks, in order of how they will be played.

 1. Kansas City Chiefs and Indianapolis Colts
The Colts have beaten 4 of the best teams in the NFL this season, including the Chiefs a few weeks ago. After starting 9-0, Kansas City has slumped a little bit and the defense hasn't played well. Quarterback Andrew Luck has very few dangerous weapons, but Alex Smith could have less.
My Prediction: Andrew Luck gets his first career victory in a 27-20 win over the slumping Chiefs.

 2. New Orleans Saints at Philadelphia Eagles
Both of these two high-powered teams are built around their offenses, and it looks like the first NFC playoff game will be very high-scoring. One of the biggest headlines is the road woes of New Orleans, who are 8-0 at home and 3-5 on the road.
My Prediction: The offense of Chip Kelly is too much for the Rob Ryan-led defense and the Eagles win a thriller, 48-40.

 3. San Francisco 49ers at Green Bay Packers
Now that the Packers have Aaron Rodgers back, they could get on a roll and win the Super Bowl! Not so fast- they are against the 49ers, winners of 6 straight games. The difference could be the defense- San Francisco has a good one and Green Bay, well, does not.
My Prediction: Like they did in last year's playoff matchup, Colin Kaepernick and the Niners run off with a playoff victory.

 4. San Diego Chargers at Cincinnati Bengals
On paper, this game looks like a blowout. The Bengals have averaged over 40 points in their last 5 home games and have Giovani Bernard, AJ Green, Tyler Eifert, Jermaine Gresham, Andy Dalton, Marvin Jones, BenJarvus Green-Ellis, and Alex Smith (not that Alex Smith). But the Chargers are on a roll and have a good running back duo in Ryan Mathews and Danny Woodhead and great players in the passing game including Philip Rivers, Keenan Allen, and Antonio Gates. Cincinnati hasn't won a playoff game in 23 years, and quarterback Andy Dalton has performed poorly in his two playoff games.
My Prediction: Andy Dalton continues his late season struggles and a good performance by Eric Weddle helps the Chargers upset Cincy, 24-20.

Poll. Can the Chargers make it to the Super Bowl?

In a must-win game, the San Diego Chargers punched their ticket to the playoffs by beating the Kansas City Chiefs in overtime, 27-24.

Chargers QB Philip Rivers came through in the clutch, throwing for 229 yards and 3 TDs.  RB Ryan Mathews was a workhorse, carrying the ball 24 times for 144 yards.

Kansas City had a chance to win -- and send the Steelers to the playoffs -- at the end of regulation but barely missed a 40-yard field goal with 8 seconds left.

The Chargers looked out of it just one month ago when they were 5-7, but won their last four games in a row in thrilling fashion to make the playoffs.

Poll. Which team will take the last playoff spot in the AFC?

The San Diego Chargers kept themselves in the playoff hunt by stunning the Denver Broncos, in Denver, 27-20.

The Chargers, led by Ryan Mathews' 128 yards rushing and two Keenan Allen TD receptions, dominated the time of possession and kept the powerful Broncos offense on the sideline for much of the night.

Peyton Manning was out of sync throughout the night, although he did connect with Andre Caldwell for two TDs in the comeback effort.

Poll. What are the chances of the Chargers winning the AFC west division?

The Chargers hopes definitely were a little dimmer when they heard Peyton Manning joined the AFC West at the beginning of the season but winning seven games is still just not enough.  QB Philip Rivers will need to reenergize this team come 2013.

The Future:

  • - Draft Position #11: G Chance Warmack, NT Star Lotulelei

  • - Trade: RB Ryan Mathews––he’s young enough to have value, but has been disappointing enough to let go
