NFL RUSH

NFL PLAY 60 turns 10 years old this week!  The NFL program is all about getting physical for 60 minutes day and it is a total success!

It all started on a playground in New Orleans just 10 short years ago and it has grown so much!

Now, there are 2000 PLAY 60 events each year!

There are 250 NFL Youth Fitness Zones have been constructed around the country!

And over 16 million kids are getting at least 60 minutes of physical activity each and every day.

How should we celebrate?  Let's get out and play!

Happy Birthday, PLAY 60!

Check out Matt Bosher, the punter for the Atlanta Falcons, as he gives a demonstration of his amazing soccer skills.
Recently the NFL, USA Football, Fuel Up to Play 60, GENYOUth Foundation and the National Recreation and Park Association teamed up in Seattle with the launch of the NFL FLAG program.

Bringing NFL FLAG Football Kits to more than 500,000 students nationwide, the program gives kids the chance to get active every day.

Chris, a lucky Fuel Up to Play 60 Student Ambassador participated in the event and mingled with Seattle Seahawks players, cheerleaders and the teams' mascot Blitz!

"This trip was a very fun and thrilling experience that I was fortunate enough to have." said Chris. You can read all about his day with the Seahawks and the NFL on The Huddle, Fuel Up to Play 60's student blog.

NFL players and kids featured in Fuel Up to Play 60's #LoveOfPlay video showed each other fun ways to get active, and now they're challenging YOU to show how you play! Check it out!

Since Fuel Up to Play 60's For the Love of Play campaign launched on September 9, there have been a ton of photos, selfies and videos posted on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram using #LoveOfPlay. Check out how kids, families, schools and entire communities across the nation are sharing their #LoveOfPlay!

What do you think New York Giants DB Stevie Brown is better at?

Hopscotch?

Four square?

Doing the double-dutch with Jason Pierre-Paul?

Maybe he is just really good at having NFL PLAY 60 fun!

cardsfan1998 just scored 17 points in Frankfurter Fling!

Today we send a big shout out to Fort Mill High School in Ft. Mill, South Carolina! They celebrated Breast Cancer Awareness by wearing pink for their game against Northwestern High School.

Not only that but they organized a fundraiser and raised and impressive $7,100 for the American Cancer Society and they sported some pretty sweet pink gear!

New York Giants defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul and some of his teammates went back to a school in the Bronx, NY recently to learn more fun ways to PLAY 60!

How would you answer his question, "What's your PLAY 60?"

Poll. When Thomas runs the ball onto the field before the Super Bowl, he should:

Nine year-old Pittsburgh Steelers fan Thomas Brown was chosen as this year’s NFL PLAY 60 Super Kid!  On February 2, Thomas gets to run on the field and hand the game ball to a game official moments before kickoff of Super Bowl XLVIII. SUPER cool, huh?

Thomas is a competitive swimmer who specializes in the backstroke, and a Cub Scout who enjoys surfing.   In his contest essay, he suggested healthy-eating tips for Troy Polamalu and his teammates, writing “I would tell them to eat healthy foods that are not artificial.  Eat veggies, lots of protein to build muscles, and stay away from junk food.  It will also make your hair shinier, especially Troy.  I think they should do this because I tried it and it has made me a better player on the field and a better student in the classroom.”

Thomas and his family traveled to Pittsburgh for a special surprise dinner with Polamalu and was treated to a tour of the Steelers facility, where he spent time with Steelers president Art Rooney II and players Heath Miller and Maurkice Pouncey.

Congratulations to Thomas Brown, the NFL PLAY 60 Super Kid for 2013-14!

I got a chance to attend the NFL PLAY 60 Character Camp at Paul Brown Stadium in Cincinnati, which the NFL put on with Anthony Muñoz’s Agency. PLAY 60 is an effort by the NFL to get kids to be active for 60 minutes a day. This camp focused on the basic skills of football. I think the PLAY 60 camp was a really good camp, as it taught me how to have more fun with football. The coaches had really good drills. They showed us catching, throwing and blocking drills and taught us Mission Impossible. I liked the running contest the best. The coaches were really nice and supportive of the kids no matter how good they were. They also explained what you were doing wrong if you messed up and didn’t yell.

I got to meet Brayden Coombs who is a Wide Receiver and Special Teams coach for the Cincinnati Bengals. I didn’t know Coombs was a coach because he was really young and didn’t look like the average coach. He was really nice and answered questions for me about my favorite player A.J. Green.

This camp reached out to kids to teach about characteristics that a person and an athlete should have on and off the field.  Also, the coaches taught us about making good choices on and off the field.

Mr. Anthony Muñoz was the person who founded this event. He is the only Cincinnati Bengal to be inducted into the Hall of Fame.  My dad remembers him playing for the Bengals and said he is considered the best offensive lineman in NFL history. He is from a Hispanic family and wanted to introduce football to kids who have a Hispanic background. I got to meet Mr. Muñoz and interview him. He was very big. He told me that playing in the NFL was very tough, but very fun. I asked him if football was popular in his neighborhood, and he said baseball was more popular. I asked him if he was scared to play, and he responded, “I was never scared to play in the NFL. But I just didn’t want to fail.” Other fun things he said was that he went out to dinner with his teammates on Thursday nights. Last, he encouraged me to have good work habits if I want to be successful in life.

I hope that I can go to this NFL Play 60 Character Camp next year. I always play 60 minutes or more a day to stay healthy and active, and I encourage you all to do the same.

My name is Hunter, and I am the NFL PLAY 60 Super Kid! My favorite team is the Washington Redskins. As part of my prize from the NFL, the Redskins invited me to where they practice in Ashburn,VA. When I first arrived, I was looking at the Super Bowl trophies. Alfred Morris came over and started talking to me. I said, “You are on my fantasy team on NFLRUSH.”

He said “How did I do for you?” and I said “You got me into the Playoffs!”

I was then taken over to the bubble where they practice. My brother Brandon and I raced across the field. The Redskins arrived and I got to help special teams and the punt returners practice. I was very happy and then  RGIII walked in and asked if I wanted to throw the ball with him. I got to play football just like the Redskins.  I even ran in to the camera man!

I then had to go back to the Redskins building for an interview for Redskins Nation. And then I got a tour of the building. I got to see the workout room, the equipment room, the player's lounge, medical room and their locker room. I even got to go to Dan Snyder’s office and talk to him. He told me his kids said I was the most awesome kid in the world.

Before lunch all the Redskins came running down the stairs. The first Redskin I seen was Brandon Banks. Chris Cooley stopped to talk and he gave me his gloves right off his hands. I was so happy I forgot to get them autographed. Well I did get Alfred Morris, London Fletcher, Santana Moss, Stephen Bowen, Mike Shanahan, and Brandon Meriweather’s autograph on my Redskins helmet that I brought with me. Then RGIII walked down the stairs and started to talk to me. He gave me his glove and signed it. He also signed my jersey. He was awesome and very nice.

I went to go have lunch in the Redskins cafeteria and London Fletcher came and sat  down with me and my family. We had lunch and then the Redskins gave me some really cool gifts. I got a book bag filled with stuff and at the bottom there were Redskins vs. Cowboys tickets to the home game that decided if we were going to the playoffs! We went that Sunday and the Redskins won!  We became the NFC East Champions. Hail to the Redskins! It was a very cool experience.

I entered the Quaker NFL PLAY 60 contest, answering three questions about being fit and healthy; I was lucky enough to win!  The prize was two tickets to a Seahawks game… and the Seahawks honored me by adding sideline passes to watch up close and personal the warm-ups before the game began!                  The amazing prize was to be on the game just before Christmas, the Seahawks versus the 49ers.

My mom and I drove up to the game early, so we could sight see while in Seattle.  I was able to check out the Asian Market and the Seahawks ProShop!

The stadium is an inspiring experience, after clearing security, my mom and I were led onto the field for the pre-game warm-ups.  I was able to stand on the 10-yard line and watch the players run, perform drills, kick field goals and practice catching thrown footballs from simulated snaps… Really amazing experience!  While watching the warm-ups, a ball holder came by us an allowed me to hold the official ball and have my picture taken with it – I could not have been a happier kid!

Once the warm-ups were done, we found our seats for the game, located in the season ticket holders’ area of the end zone, in section 120, Row M – we were front and center to witness the blocked field goal, and it felt like I was right in the middle of the action!  The nice people behind us, allowed me to stand on the seat so I could see the field better, and every time the Seahawks scored a touchdown, I turned a circle to give high fives to everyone!... they were so nice to be around, I felt like I belonged.

The game was so loud; it was like listening to people on the Extreme Scream at the Puyallup Fair!  My mom and I came away a little hoarse from so much cheering, I think we helped with a couple of the forced timeouts and false starts the 49ers had.

As half-time approached, it snowed for a few minutes, which was a nice addition to the constant drizzle we were in.  It gave a little magical touch to the atmosphere of the game.  I had an awesome experience, and for my first ever game – the Seahawks and the people involved with allowing me the honor of the experience – did not disappoint!  I would totally recommend going to see a game live, the amped up atmosphere is something you just cannot get from staying at home!

Thank you to the Seahawks, Quaker, and NFL PLAY 60 for allowing me to have one the best memories of my life – a day spent with my mom in a game that was epic, on the field, in the stands and giving me the gift of a cherished memory that will never fade.

Thank you also to Miss Hefele for chatting with my mother and setting in motion all the steps that needed to happen in order for my first NFL experience to be beyond what I could have imagined.  Miss Hefele, you are greatly appreciated!
