NFL RUSH

Poll: Seven Fabulous Facts
NFL football was awesome yesterday!

Last second wins, amazing catches, dazzling runs, big hits, and seven fabulous football factoids:
1) The Tennessee Titans defeated the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 42-14. The game marks the first time in NFL history in which the top two picks in the NFL Draft -- Tampa Bay's JAMEIS WINSTON (No. 1) and Tennessee's MARCUS MARIOTA (No. 2) -- started at quarterback against one another in Week 1 of that season.

The combined ages of Winston and Mariota (43 years, 203 days) is the youngest for the starting quarterbacks in a game since the 1970 merger.
2) Tennessee's MARCUS MARIOTA completed 13 of 16 passes (81.3 percent) for 209 yards with four touchdowns and no interceptions for a 158.3 passer rating in the Titans win. He is the first rookie in NFL history to post a 158.3 passer rating on Kickoff Weekend(minimum 14 attempts), which is the highest attainable rating.

Mariota joined Pro Football Hall of Famer FRAN TARKENTON (1961) as the only rookies in NFL history to throw four touchdown passes on Kickoff Weekend. All four of Mariota's touchdown passes came in the first half and he is the only rookie in NFL history to throw four touchdown passes in one half.
3) The St. Louis Rams defeated the Seattle Seahawks 34-31 in overtime. The game is the first season opener in NFL history in which both teams scored on a punt-return touchdown.

St. Louis' TAVON AUSTIN had a 75-yard punt-return touchdown and also added a 16-yard touchdown run. Austin is the fifth player in the past 20 years to score a touchdown on a punt return and a rush in the same game.

Seattle rookie TYLER LOCKETT had a 57-yard punt-return touchdown and is the first rookie to score a touchdown on his first career return on Kickoff Weekend since 2005 (San Francisco's OTIS AMEY).
4) Green Bay quarterback AARON RODGERS completed 78.3 percent of his passes (18 of 23) for 189 yards with three touchdowns and no interceptions for a 140.5 passer rating in the Packers 31-23 win at Chicago. It marked Rodgers' third consecutive game against Chicago with at least three touchdown passes, no interceptions and a 140+ passer rating. He is the only quarterback in NFL history to throw at least three touchdowns with no interceptions and post a 140+ passer rating in three consecutive games against a single opponent. In fact, Rodgers has now accomplished the feat twice, having done so against Minnesota in 2010-11.

5) Buffalo wide receiver PERCY HARVIN had five catches for 79 yards, including a 51-yard touchdown catch in the first quarter, in the Bills 27-14 win against Indianapolis. Harvin and Pro Football Hall of Famer OLLIE MATSON are the only players in NFL history with at least four career 50-yard touchdown catches and three 100-yard kickoff-return touchdowns.

6) San Diego quarterback PHILIP RIVERS completed 35 of 42 passes (83.3 percent) for 404 yards and two touchdowns for a 102.8 passer rating in the Chargers 33-28 win against Detroit. Rivers now has 254 career touchdown passes, tying Pro Football Hall of Famer DAN FOUTS for the most in franchise history.

Chargers wide receiver KEENAN ALLEN had 15 catches (166 yards), which tied Pro Football Hall of Famer KELLEN WINSLOW (15 receptions on October 7, 1984 at Green Bay) for the franchise's single-game record for catches.

Allen's 15 catches are the most by a player on Kickoff Weekend since the 1970 merger.
7) Kansas City tight end TRAVIS KELCE had six catches for 106 yards and two touchdowns in the Chiefs 27-20 win at Houston. Kelce joined TONY GONZALEZ as the only tight ends in franchise history with at least 100 receiving yards and two touchdown catches in a game. He is the only Kansas City tight end to accomplish the feat in a season opener.

Poll: How will the Bills do this year?

Kid Reporter Jake spoke with new Buffalo Bills head coach Rex Ryan about the upcoming NFL Season.

Q: You came to Buffalo this offseason. A team you know very well. The Bills are coming off a promising 9-7 season. What do you think the strengths are of this team?

I think the obvious strength is the defensive line. You have four guys, three of them went to the Pro Bowl and a fourth could have easily in Jerry Hughes. So I think that obviously is the strength. Some of the weapons that we have, LeSean McCoy as our running back, Charles Clay, Percy Harvin, already to a team that has Sammy Watkins and Robert Woods. So I like our skill position players on offense and I think our defensive line is the strength of our team on defense.

Q: After spending six seasons with the Jets, what will your emotions be when you return to Metlife Stadium?

They are just another opponent. So it is an opponent we want to beat just like anyone else and they are in our division so that always adds a little more to it. I am not sure I will feel any differently, but you never know until I get there. But I know one thing--I want to win that game.

Q: The Bills have not made the playoffs since 1999. You took the Jets to the AFC Championship game in your first two seasons there. How far do you think the Bills will go this year and what will it take to get there?

I think we will be in the playoffs this year. I think the big thing is we have to stay healthy and get a great grasp of our new systems on offense and defense. I think when we do that, I think our guys are going to be able to play against anyone in this league.

Q: How do you think having LeSean McCoy will help EJ Manuel's growth this year?

Well not just EJ Manuel's but everybody's growth. Whoever plays at the quarterback position is really going to benefit from LeSean being our running back. Meaning that it is a lot easier to throw against man coverage or one-on-one coverage than it is double coverages and loaded zones and stuff like that. So I think all the quarterbacks will benefit will LeSean being back there and I think our receivers will benefit by getting the kind of coverages they are going to get because you are going to have to play us in eight man spaces.

This year the Jets rebooted their team and that started with free agency. From Darrelle Revis to Brandon Marshall, the Jets have been making a big splash in the free agency market. Here are my grades for the Jets free agency.

Darrelle Revis - After being away from the Jets for two seasons they brought him back. The Jets really needed help in the secondary, so they got the best in the league. I think this is a great move because he is very talented and this move has the fans excited. My grade: A+

Brandon Marshall - The Jets got a steal. They only gave up a 5th round pick to replace the expensive receiver Percy Harvin with a 5-time Pro Bowler, Marshall. This move now makes the Jets receivers lethal and saves them money. My grade: A

Antonio Cromartie - Like Revis, Cromartie is a former Jet cornerback and played beside Revis to make a very good tandem. Last year he made the Pro Bowl with the Arizona Cardinals. In addition, Todd Bowles, the former Cardinals Defensive Coordinator, is now the head coach of the Jets, giving Cromartie a reunion with Bowles and the Jets. The only potential cause for concern is his age, as he turns 31 next month. Revis is also about to turn 30, but he is the best in the league, Based on the last few years, however, Cromartie can still play. My grade: B+

Ryan Fitzpatrick - The Jets made a trade to get Fitzpatrick for a conditional pick, so if he plays well enough, they owe the Texans a low draft pick. This instantly improves the quarterback position and provides competition for Geno Smith. He is also familiar with Chan Gailey the offensive coordinator for the Jets. The 32-year old Fitzpatrick quietly put up a 95.3 passer rating last season which is very good. My grade: B-

Buster Skrine - He is not a very familiar name to most people but Skrine, a cornerback is now added to this very strong secondary. Last season he had 4 interceptions and 18 passes defended and will certainly add to the Jets already deep defense. My grade: B

All of these moves on paper look to benefit the Jets, but I think the result will be the Jets improving to an 8-8 record in 2015 with a new era only just beginning.
NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reports on wide receiver Percy Harvin's 1-year deal with the Buffalo Bills, which is an endorsement from head coach Rex Ryan, for whom Harvin played on the Jets last year.

Poll: Who will win tonight's MNF battle?
The Miami Dolphins take on the New York Jets in MNF tonight!

The Dolphins are fighting for a playoff spot and are led by QB Ryan Tannehill, RB Lamar Miller and WRs Mike Wallace and Jarvis Landry. Super-sacking DE Cameron Wake powers one of the top defenses in the league.

The Jets need to get it going on and there's no better way to do that than to beat their rivals on national TV. QB Geno Smith, RB Chris Ivory and WRs Eric Decker and Percy Harvin are a threat to score on every play.

The action starts at 8:30 PM ET on ESPN.

New York Jets quarterback Michael Vick throws a 42-yard pass to wide receiver Percy Harvin who make a nice leaping grab.
New York Jets wide receiver Percy Harvin had himself quite a day, catching 11 passes for 129 yards and rushing for eight yards on one carry.
The New York Jets won their first game and haven't won a game since. The Jets (1-7) have been terrible and coach Rex Ryan had to bench Geno Smith. But in Week 9 New York will face the Chiefs and could pull off an upset and end their losing streak. Michael Vick is the starter in a potentially dangerous Jets offense. Vick can still run and is hard to tackle. Percy Harvin, acquired in a trade with Seattle, will play in his second game and will have had more time to prepare. He can be dynamic on both special teams and as a receiver, as shown in the first game of the season and the Super Bowl. Former Broncos receiver Eric Decker has been injured but is the best option when available. Running back Chris Ivory has had the best season of his career so far and has made up for Chris Johnson. The defense has been underperforming, but multiple Pro Bowlers on the defensive line could turn around the season. Rookie of the Year Sheldon Richardson and Pro Bowl lineman Muhammad Wilkerson will improve as the season goes on and they face a weak Kansas City offensive line. The Chiefs have been hard to predict. In Week 1, Kansas City was blown out by the Colts. Since then, they have beaten the 5-3 Chargers, crushed the Patriots 41-14, topped the Dolphins, and shut down the Rams. Jamaal Charles, their powerful running back, has been a key player, rushing for 678 yards when the Chiefs win. When the Chiefs lose, it is because their running game, which combines for 307 rushing yards in losses. New York is one of the best teams against the run (5th in yards allowed per game), so the passing game will have to go off for Kansas City. Quarterback Alex Smith hasn't been great and only Travis Kelce has over 350 receiving yards. If the Jets can hold Charles, the Chiefs may not score over 20 points. While the defense will be a storyline to watch, the offense will be what makes or breaks the Jets on Sunday. The passing game is the worst in the NFL, with only 179.4 yards per game. Vick, who was announced the starter early in the week, has a 48.2 passer rating with a measly 46.4 pass completion percentage. He will need to turn to Philadelphia form for the offense to score. The running game, the 4th best in the NFL, will depend on Chris Ivory to have a big game, especially if Vick doesn't do well. Prediction: Chris Ivory rushes for over 100 yards and two touchdowns and the defense holds Jamaal Charles under 80 yards. Michael Vick has a solid game, with 200 passing yards and 50 rushing yards, and Percy Harvin makes an impact on special teams. The final score is 23-21, with an Ivory touchdown leading the Jets to their first victory since Week 1.
New York Jets newly acquired wide receiver Percy Harvin had his ups and downs in the teams 43-23 loss to the Buffalo Bills catching three passes for 22 yards and rushing the ball for 28 yards on four carries.
The Jets continued their struggles in Week 7, losing in heartbreaking fashion 27- 25 to their arch rivals the Patriots. They now face a depleted Bills team in a much win game. Bigger than the game is the news involving Percy Harvin. The Jets GM John Idzik gave the struggling Jets and Rex Ryan one of the most dynamic players in the league from a trade with the Seahawks in exchange for as little as a 6th round draft pick. This trade makes me think that Harvin could potentially be the star against the Bills. After only just a few days at practice, the offense might not be totally clear to him but I think they will force the ball to him to prove a point. Watching the Jets take on the Patriots, the receivers looked slow which resulted in Geno Smith having to scramble and find someone open or run. With Harvin they can stretch the field with his speed and finally complete those plays of 20 yards or more. It sounds like this was the perfect move and trade for the Jets but there's always a reason a player is traded. The Seahawks claimed Harvin was not being a strong locker room and off the field guy. So far it looks good and Harvin said it was all smiles with the Jets. But for him it' just a nine game season hoping not to get released in the offseason. I think the Jets will score big on this trade and actually have a good receiving core with Harvin, Decker, and Kerley who just signed a 4-year deal with the Jets. Harvin will have a solid rest of his year and provide some hope to a depressed New York Jets team. My prediction -- Over the next 9 games Percy Harvin will have 49 receptions, 503 yards and 6 touchdowns. As a result the Jets finish the season 8-8.
NFL Media's Brian Billick and Sterling Sharpe break down the Percy Harvin trade what it means to both the New York Jets and Seattle Seahawks.

We've always known that wide receiver Percy Harvin can turn on the jets, but now he plays for the Jets!

That's right, the Seattle Seahawks have traded WR Percy Harvin to the New York Jets. NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport tells all in the video.

Wow! Who do you think got the better end of the deal?

Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Percy Harvin expresses his feelings after having three potential touchdowns nullified in the game against the Washington Redskins in Week 5.
Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Percy Harvin takes the pitch and runs 50 yards for a touchdown.
