Poll: Kid Reporter John - AFC Preview

In my last post I ran down the NFC teams that I think are primed to make a run at Super Bowl 50

Now it's time take a look at the AFC race to see who's most likely to run the table.

Favorites in AFC

New England Patriots: The reigning Super Bowl champions lost some notable players to free agency. Super Bowl MVP Tom Brady and Rob Gronkowski remain among the league's best players, Bill Belichick is the best head coach, so don't rule out the Patriots.

Indianapolis Colts: In each of the first three seasons QB Andrew Luck has lead the Colts deeper into the playoffs. With the addition of RB Frank Gore and WR Andre Johnson the Colts offense will rank among the best in the NFL. The defense, which is middle of the pack, did little to improve. Still, when the playoffs came around last year, both the offense and defense were rolling.

In the Mix

Denver Broncos: This could be Peyton Manning's last season in Denver, so he is going all in for a second Lombardi Trophy. New head coach Gary Kubiak will look to focus more on running the ball. This balanced attack should help the Broncos put the pieces together and possibly reach the Super Bowl.

Baltimore Ravens: The Ravens pushed the Patriots to the limit before falling in the final minutes of last season's playoff clash. It's easy to overlook the Ravens, but in each season of the John Harbaugh/Ozzie Newsome era, they have won at least one playoff game. They are one of the best postseason teams.

Pittsburgh Steelers: There are few trios in the NFL scarier than Pittsburgh's. QB Ben Roethlisberger, RB Le'Veon Bell, and WR Antonio Brown wreak havoc on opposing defenses. They also give the Steelers the vibe of an Super Bowl contender.

San Diego Chargers: For QB Philip Rivers to succeed, he needs a strong offensive line and a dependable running back. He didn't have either last year, but the Chargers drafted running back Melvin Gordon and added offensive lineman Orlando Franklin. The Chargers have Super Bowl potential.

Poll: Who was the Indianapolis Colts MVP?

The Indianapolis Colts had a terrific season which ended one game away from the Super Bowl.

As one of the major players in this year's free agent market (Frank Gore, Andre Johnson), their future looks very bright.

Who do you think was the Colts Most Valuable Player last season?

T.Y. Hilton, WR - In just his third season, Hilton has emerged as one of the biggest playmakers in the league. His 82 catches, 1,345 receiving yards and 7 TDs earned him his first Pro Bowl trip. It won't be his last.

D'Qwell Jackson, LB - D'Qwell (awesome name) was signed as a free agent last year to stabilize the Colts defense. All he did was lead the team in tackles, record 4 sacks and recover a team high 4 fumbles. Mission accomplished.

Andrew Luck, QB - In 2012 Luck arrived with the unbelievable expectations that come with being the number 1 pick in the draft. And oh yeah, he had to replace the legendary Peyton Manning. Not only has Luck met expectations,, he's exceeded them. His 4,761 passing yards and 40 TDs last season only begin to tell the story of his importance to the team.

Lucas Oil Stadium Roof Operator - The Indianapolis Colts stadium boasts the largest retractable roof in the league. It takes 32 steel cables roughly nine minutes to move the mammoth 4.5 acres of roof into place. A big job and a big responsibility.

Colin Kaepernick, QB - 3,369 yards passing, and 643 rushing, Kaepernick is the engine that powers the 49ers offense.

Frank Gore, RB - With 1,106 yards rushing last year, Gore has now rushed for over 1,000 yards in eight of his ten seasons.

Anquan Boldin, WR - For someone who was thought to be at the end of his career when he arrive, Boldin has done nothing but produce. His 83 catches, 1,062 receiving yards and five TD catches were all tops on the team.

Golden Gate Bridge - If you've even driven across the Golden Gate Bridge, you know it's one of the most beautifully serene experiences you'll ever have. The players on opposing teams exit their buses in a subdued trance. That's when the 49ers pounce!
