While it's not the biggest upset we've called this year, the Giants are a slight underdog. 51% of NFLRushers pick the Patriots to win this Sunday and that means 51% of you will be wrong. The Patriots and Giants have been in the Super Bowl together before and that ended with the Giants raising the trophy. Earlier this season in Week 9 the Giants beat these Pats. So why would you expect it to be any different this time around?
In fact it will be much different because this game will not be as close as either of those games. The Giants pass rush has 9 sacks in this post-season and and DE Osi Umenyiora has 3.5 of those sacks. During the regular season the giants had 48 sacks, third most in the NFL and DE Jason Pierre-Paul had 16.5 on his own. QB Tom Brady will be running for his life the whole game.
In 2008, the Giants didn't need a whole lot of offense to beat the Patriots but this time they are bringing some firepower. QB Eli Manning had his best season ever and he has three star WRs to throw to. Hakeem Nicks, Mario Manningham and Victor Cruz are just too much to handle. Nicks has averaged 111.7 yards a game this post-season and has 4 TDs to lead this talented trio. They have yet to use their one-two punch in the backfield, RBs Ahmad Bradshaw and Brandon Jacobs, who can punish any defense. Both backs are averaging around 4.5 yards per carry in the post-season. It's just too much talent to cover.
Hey Patriots! You're on Upset Alert!
