Team Report Cards: Saints Can Get Back to the Top

What happened to the Saints?  This team has been near the top of the league for many years, so we aren't used to seeing these guys with a mediocre record like 7-9.  The Saints need to shake it off and get back to doing work and kicking tail.

New Orleans Saints

2012 Record: 7-9

Grade: C

The Good:

  • - With 5,177 yards and 43 TDs, QB Drew Brees is still one of the best in the league
    • - The trio of TE Jimmy Graham and WRs Marques Colston and Lance Moore were responsible for 25 TDs and over 3,000 yards receiving
  • - Head Coach Sean Payton is back!

The Bad:

    • - The defense was terrible: 31st passing  & 32nd rushing
  • - They lost 4 of their last 6 games
  • - RB Mark Ingram led the team in rushing with just 602 yards on 3.9 per carry. Not exactly the numbers the Saints expected when making him a first round pick in 2010.

The Future:

  • - Draft Position #15: DT Barkevious Mingo or DE Bjoern Werner
  • - Free Agent Targets: CB Nnamdi Asomugha, DL Richard Seymour and LB Karlos Dansby
  • - Trade: RB Pierre Thomas––we love Thomas, but there are just too many cooks in this kitchen. They should trade him for a draft pick and give more time to up-and-coming RB Chris ivory.

Will the Saints bounce back in 2013?
