April 1, 2014 - The National Football League announced today that teams will now be able to draft players straight from NFL Flag Football leagues.
"The talent level in NFL Flag Football is exploding" said commissioner Roger Goodell. "That talent is currently being scooped up by junior high schools throughout the country but now those players can go straight to the NFL."
This bombshell announcement changes the entire outlook of next month's NFL draft. Many now expect the Houston Texans, with the first pick in the draft, to choose 5'2", 92 lb., 9 year-old QB Peter Gerson from the Bloomfield Bison flag team in Bloomfield, MI.
Gerson threw for 472 yards in 7 games while leading the Bison to an undefeated season and league championship last year.
"Gerson's a little skinny, but he's got a cannon for an arm and is a true leader" said Texans GM Rick Smith. "He's the guy to lead the Texans for the next 25 years."
Gerson's representative, famed NFL player agent Jacque Cullen, indicated that Gerson's contract demands would be significant. "Bloomfield Jr. High just offered Peter a 10-speed bike and unlimited Slurpees to play for them. It's going to be tough for the Texans to beat that."
