Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints showed up for a showdown in the Big Easy last Sunday afternoon. Surprisingly the 49ers did too, coming off a tough loss from the Panthers. In the end, the Saints pulled out the victory but how did they do it?

He shows up again- Drew Brees continues to perform at a high level repeating 300 yard games. He has made big plays with his arm spreading the ball to all his receivers. He has had issues with interceptions in the past but this year his big play ability has overshadowed those mistakes. His strong passing performance was boosted with help from the running game. He did a good job managing the game and staying tough after a shot from Amhad Brooks. Brees played well against a tough 49er defense and led the Saints to a tight win.

Controlling the line of scrimmage- The Saints did a good job containing Frank Gore as they held him to 3.7 yards per carry. The defensive line was ferocious attacking the offensive line to get to Gore. They also did a nice job of putting pressure on Collin Kapernick. He is supposed to one of the stronger mobile quarterbacks but the big plays he made last season have been harder to find this season. The Saints lost Jabbari Greer to injury but their defensive line made a difference maker in winning the game.

The game came down to the wire but the Saints ultimately prevailed as the winner. Drew Bress and the Saints ability to dominate the line of scrimmage were a big part of stopping the high powered 49ers. The matchup may be over for now but both these teams have a good chance of making the playoffs where they can meet yet again for another thrilling showdown.
