There were many surprises in the 2013 NFL draft. These included both Geno Smith and Manti Te'o being drafted lower than expected. There were many other surprises too, but the one that stood out the most to me was EJ Manuel pick. Manuel, the quarterback drafted out of Florida State, is my third favorite quarterback in the draft. However, he had a mid-second to early third round ranking on him.
Another surprise to me about this pick is that the Bills already have QB Kevin Kolb and they needed a linebacker. Jarvis Jones, who is a good linebacker, was available with their 16th pick, which they received from the trade with the Rams. Even though I like what they did in the rest of the draft, they should have selected Jarvis Jones and traded up in the third round to get Manuel. Overall, it's a risky pick because of the expectations of a first round quarterback, but it will pay off because he'll be their franchise quarterback. His Ben Roethlisberger-like size, Joe Flacco-like arm strength, and Cam Newton-like athleticism will make him an elite quarterback in the NFL.
