Chargers vs Colts SAN DIEGO 28 vs. INDIANAPOLIS 24
The Colts started the game well and Peyton Manning’s offense scored on their 1st drive. The Chargers looked to be in trouble when their 1st drive ended with an interception. The Colts took the ball down the field, but the momentum changed when WR Marvin Harrison fumbled and the Chargers recovered. The Chargers went on to score a TD, but star RB LaDainian Tomlinson was injured during the drive and would not return. The Colts looked like they would score in the final minute of the half, but CB Antonio Cromartie intercepted a pass at his own 11-yard line. After the first half, the Colts led, 10-7. The Chargers started the 2nd half with a TD and the Colts matched them with a TD of their own. QB Philip Rivers went down with a knee injury in the 3rd quarter and did not return, but backup QB Billy Volek stepped in with the Chargers down by 3. Billy Volek helped the Chargers drive down the field and scored a TD on a 1-yard QB sneak. The Chargers took the lead, but Peyton Manning still had time. The Colts drove all the way to the Charger 7-yard line with a chance to score and grab the lead, but the Chargers defense forced 3 incomplete passes and a turnover on downs. The Colts had one more chance with a minute left, but the Chargers defense stopped them once again. The Chargers went on to win, 28-24.

STAND-OUT PLAYERS:

Chargers: QB Philip Rivers completed 14 of 19 passes for 264 yards with 3 TDs and 1 interception.

RB Michael Turner (playing for the injured LaDainian Tomlinson) rushed for 71 yards.

WR Vincent Jackson racked up 93 yards receiving with 1 TD.

WR Chris Chambers pulled in 67 yards receiving with 1 TD.

Colts:QB Peyton Manning completed 33 of 48 passes for 402 yards and 3 TDs. He also threw 2 interceptions, both of which were inside the redzone at the Chargers 11-yard line and Chargers 2-yard line.

RB Joseph Addai rushed for 47 yards and added 67 yards receiving.

WR Anthony Gonzalez grabbed 79 yards receiving with 1 TD.

WR Reggie Wayne pulled in 76 yards receiving with 1 TD.

TE Dallas Clark racked up 95 yards receiving with 1 TD.


PICKING OFF PEYTON

The Chargers have intercepted Peyton Manning 8 times in 2 games and Antonio Cromartie has 4 of those interceptions.


FILLING IN

Michael Turner and Darren Sproles did a great job filling in for LaDainian Tomlinson who left the game in the 2nd quarter. Michael did it on the ground with 71 rush yards and Darren made a huge play when he caught a pass in the backfield and took it 56 yards for a TD.


THE NEXT STEP

The Chargers move on and will face the Patriots in the AFC Championship on Sunday at 3:00 PM EST on CBS.

 

 

Giants vs Cowboys
NEW YORK 21 vs. DALLAS 17
The Giants had lost twice to the Cowboys in the regular season, so the Giants hoped to turn their luck around and start the game strong. The Giants scored a TD on the 1st drive of the game, but the Cowboys would score 2 TDs in the second quarter. With 0:53 left in the half, QB Eli Manning took his team 71 yards down the field for a TD and they went into halftime tied, 14-14. The Cowboys managed a field goal in the 3rd quarter and the Giants couldn’t score. The Giants scored early in the 4th quarter when Brandon Jacobs punched in a 1-yard TD run. The Giants defense played well and kept the Cowboys in check. Tony Romo and the Cowboys had one last chance with 1:50 left in the game, trailing by 4. It all came down to a 4th-down-and-11 with 16 seconds left from the Giants 23-yard line. Romo’s pass was intercepted in the endzone by R.W. McQuarters and that sealed the win for the Giants.

STAND-OUT PLAYERS:

Giants: QB Eli Manning completed 12 of 18 passes for 163 yards with 2 TD and no interceptions.

RB Brandon Jacobs rushed for 54 yard with 1 TD and added 5 yards receiving.

WR Amani Toomer had a great game and grabbed 80 yards receiving and 2 TDs.

Cowboys: QB Tony Romo completed 18 of 36 passes for 201 yards with 1 TD and 1 interception. He also rushed for 17 yards.

RB Marion Barber rushed for 129 yards with 1 TD and added 9 yards receiving.

. TE Jason Witten pulled in 81 yards receiving.

WR Terrell Owens (playing with a sprained ankle) recorded 49 yards receiving and 1 TD.


TOO MANY PENALTIES

The Cowboys hurt themselves by getting penalized 11 times for a total of 84 yards.


ON THE ROAD

This is the Giants first appearance in the NFC Conference Championships since 2000 and their 9th straight win on the road.
