Members of the U.S. Congress joined with NFL PLAY 60, American Heart Association, and NASPE to highlight the importance of including Physical Education in education reform efforts on Thursday. Members of Congress reintroduced the Fitness Integrated with Teaching Kids Act (Fit Kids Act) which would combat childhood obesity by strengthening physical education programs throughout the country. The FIT Kids Act would get qualified P.E. instructors into schools and fund research that would help to design better programs.

At the event, kids met NFL Players including Ravens QB Troy Smith and Redskins CB Fred Smoot, Atlanta Falcons owner Arthur Blank, and NFL Network analyst Jamie Dukes. Members of Congress spoke to the group about the new Fit Kids Act and afterwards, the kids got a lesson on how to keep themselves fit and healthy.
