The Denver Broncos fought off a 4th quarter power surge by the San Diego Chargers to hold on to a 24-17 victory and advance to the AFC Championship Game against the New England Patriots.
Despite the windy conditions, Peyton Manning was his usual sharp self as he connected with WRs Demaryius Thomas and Wes Welker on short TD passes. The Broncos took a 17-0 lead into the fourth quarter where Knowshon Moreno added a 3-yard TD run to put the game seemingly out of reach.
The Chargers started their surge in the fourth quarter when QB Philip Rivers connected with WR Keenan Allen for a 16-yard TD. The pair connected again as the Chargers mounted a furious comeback, including a successful on-side kick, and they closed the gap to within seven points at 24-17. But that's when the power ran out for the Chargers. Manning and the Broncos got the ball back and never let go.
The victory sets up yet another match-up between the two future Hall of Famers, Peyton Manning and Tom Brady, as the Broncos will host the Patriots in the AFC title game next Sunday.
