My dreams came true on the very night of February 7th, 2010. My team, the New Orleans Saints, won their first ever Super Bowl. I, just over a decade old, have watched the Saints since the age of 8. My family, like my Grandparents, have followed the Saints for 43 years. In the 44th season of the organization, they finally saw the New Orleans Saints not only reach a Super Bowl, but win it and take the trophy back home to the Big Easy. Many moments took place on that night of my life. Here are some of my favorites. #1-Pre-Game Before we even won, my family and friends celebrated our team's first Super Bowl by eating great foods, greeting relatives who moved away after Hurricane Katrina that took a visit back to their hometown to watch the game, and my favorite, second lining around the street. I'll never forget my first time experiencing the feeling that makes you think, "My team will play in the Super Bowl in a couple hours!" Anyhow, pre-game was without doubt something I won't forget! #2-Gametime! From start to finish, I never doubted the Saints once. Even when down by 10 points, I knew we would prevail. My favorite play was the onside kick on the second half kickoff! Sean Payton rolled the dice and succeeded! Two of my other favorite plays were when the Pierre Thomas screen pass that he ran for a touchdown and the Tracy Porter pick 6 that sealed up Superbowl 44! As seconds rolled down, not only smiles, but tears of joy rolled down my cheeks as the clock struck 0! My friends and family went berserk along with me as we celebrated throughout the entire night! That was a night that I will not forget for the rest of my life. #3-Post Game Festivities! This may not take place on Super Bowl Sunday, but it holds probably my favorite moments of the Super Bowl journey! The Monday after the game, my family and I waited along with about 25,000 others outside of Louie Armstrong International Airport to meet and greet our Super Bowl Champions as they drove by in their cars! Some players high-fived fans and some fans were even lucky enough at one point, to touch the Lombardi Trophy! It was really a blast! On Tuesday my friends and family came together at the Super Bowl parade to witness Drew Brees and crew ride in Mardi Gras floats! It is has been said that more than 200,000 people attended the parade as the floats drove by. I saw all of the members of the organization and the team. They had the coaches, players, cheerleaders, and marching bands! The team threw Mardi Gras beads and toy footballs as they rode along the streets of New Orleans. Among my favorite include Tom Benson, Drew Brees, and Sean Payton! Sean Payton held up the Lombardi trophy in the parade also! Overall, it was a week to remember! Final Words This Super Bowl victory meant more to my city of New Orleans than you can imagine. Considering what families and residents of New Orleans like me went through during Hurricane Katrina, it meant so much to us! As I like to say, "Believe Dat' we back!" This really was a rebirth to the great city of New Orleans. After all, what a way to end the 2009-2010 season with a bang! I had a wonderful week and I hope you did too! How did you celebrate your Super Bowl Sunday? Just comment below! WHO DAT!? WE DAT!!! Signing off, Austin |
