In a tough hard-hitting game, the San Francisco 49ers pulled-away and beat the Carolina Panthers, 23-10.
While Panthers QB Cam Newton and WR Steve Smith had some great moments, it was the 49ers defense that came up big time and again. The 49ers defense stuffed the Panthers on two first-half goal-line stands, sacked Newton several times, and intercepted him twice.
The 49ers offense had their own struggles against the Panthers defense, but got untracked with a 12 play, 80-yard drive to end the first half. The drive was capped by a 1-yard TD pass from QB Colin Kaepernick to TE Vernon Davis which gave the 49ers a 13-10 lead at the break.
The 49ers began the second half with an 8 play, 77-yard drive that ended with a Kaepernick 4-yard TD run for a 20-10 lead.
The 49ers play the Seattle Seahawks next Sunday in the NFC Championship game.
