The Detroit Lions are playing their cross-Lake Michigan and conference rival the Chicago Bears this weekend. Neither team is going to the playoffs, so they are playing for pride, and in the Lion's case a possible 1st draft pick in next year's NFL player draft. If the St. Louis Rams win and the Lions lose this weekend, the Lions will get the 1st pick in the 2010 draft, so head coach Jim Schwartz has some thinking to do. Remember, the Rams only win this season was against the Lions. A first round pick could get the Lions a defensive lineman like Ndamukong Suh from Nebraska which they could really use. Matt Stafford is on injured reserve after having surgery this week and Kevin Smith is also on injured reserve. Drew Stanton and Daunte Culpepper didn't create much offense last week against the San Francisco 49'ers. While the Chicago Bears, led by Jay Cutler, played like they were in playoff contention beating Brett Favre and the Minnesota Vikings on Monday Night Football, so it's not looking good for the Lions at home this weekend. I'm just hoping for a better 2010 season. My prediction is Chicago 40, Lions 13. The three players that I think should go (or are already going) to the Pro Bowl are: 1. Wes Welker from the New England Patriots. Wes has really helped out Tom Brady and New England offense this year to help the Pats make the playoffs. 2. Peyton Manning from the Indianapolis Colts for having an MVP season passing for over 4,000 yards and leading the Colts to a 14-1 season into the playoffs (and Super Bowl?). 3. Drew Brees from the New Orleans Saints because of his league-leading 4,388 yards of passing and his never-give-up attitude on the football field. Wishing everyone a Happy New Year. Look for an upcoming article describing my visit to the Pro Football Hall of Fame during my Christmas break, it was really cool!
