The first round of the 2014 NFL Draft was completed last night, and all we can say is…
There were thrills, chills, shocks and tears!
As expected, the Houston Texans selected DE Jadeveon Clowney with the No. 1 overall pick and the St. Louis Rams took OT Eric Robinson with the second selection.
After that, things got crazy!
The Jacksonville Jaguars surprised everybody and made Blake Bortles the first QB taken.
Then the Buffalo Bills traded the 8th pick, and their first pick in 2015, to Cleveland in order to take WR Sammy Watkins. Most draft experts thought the Browns would take QB Johnny Manziel with their first pick, but the Browns selected DB Justin Gilbert out of Oklahoma St.
Meanwhile, Manziel waited in the green room while team after team passed on him. His wait ended when the Browns moved into the 22nd spot and made "Johnny Football” their QB of the future.
Don’t miss the action tonight when round two of the 2014 NFL Draft kicks off at 7:00 PM ET on the NFL Network and, of course, right here on NFL RUSH!
Draft Fun Facts
Jadeveon Clowney became the first defensive lineman to be chosen first overall since 2006, when these same Houston Texans took Mario Williams.
The Atlanta Falcons choice with the 6th overall pick, T Jake Matthews, became the 10th son of a Pro Football Hall of Fame player/coach to be drafted into the league. His father Bruce Matthews played for 18 seasons in the NFL and made the Pro Bowl 14 times.
QB Blake Bortles was selected earlier than any other player in Central Florida history. He joins QB Daunte Culpepper as the only players in school history to be chosen in Round 1.
LB Khalil Mack (Oakland, 5th pick) is the first player from the University of Buffalo to be drafted in Round 1.
