After defeating France and Mexico in games that proved Team USA’s power and commitment to the game, the U.S. took on Canada in the Gold Medal Game. Canada had previously beaten New Zealand 55-0 and barely grazed past Japan in a 38-35 game that secured a spot in the Gold Medal Game. More than 15,000 people came out to watch the finale of the week-long tournament, and it was quite a game to see. Scoring 18 points in the first half and 23 points in the second half, Team USA continued its winning streak by toppling Canada 41-3. Key players for Team USA included quarterback Bryce Petty (Baylor), who threw for three touchdowns, 14 complete passes and a total of 190 yards on the day; Corey Lillard (University of Virginia), a safety who had three strong tackles; and Storm Klein (Ohio State), a linebacker who had the only defensive interception of the game.
