The NFL Draft begins in just two weeks, on Thursday, April 28 at Radio City Music Hall in New York City. To celebrate this momentous event, NFLRush is looking at #1 draft picks from years past and asking this question, "Where are they now?"
Where Is Matthew Stafford Now?
Today, we’re taking a look at Matthew Stafford. Many analysts predicted that Stafford, a University of Georgia quarterback, would be the #1 draft pick of 2009. Sure enough, they were right. The lucky team was the Detroit Lions.
Stafford was picked up by the Detroit Lions that year. His six-year contract for 41.7 million dollars set an NFL contract record that was not broken until the following year, by Sam Bradford.
In the 2009 season, Stafford did very well. He passed for 2,267 yards, 13 touchdowns, and 20 interceptions, setting the record for a Lions rookie! We'd say the Lions did pretty well with their pick!
Check in with NFLRush to learn more about where former #1 draft picks are now.
