Training camp starts next week!
Teams often host training camp in locations that are off the beaten path, which minimizes distractions and forges team unity.
Check out these crazy camp locations:
New Orleans Saints - Greenbrier Country Club, WV
The Greenbrier Country Club is home to the oldest golf club in America and has hosted 26 presidents. It's also the site of a massive underground bunker that was meant to serve as an emergency shelter for the United States Congress during the Cold War. Apparently, the Saints can improve their foot speed by avoiding golf balls!
Kansas City Chiefs - Missouri Western State University, MO
The Kansas City Chiefs hold their camp on the campus of Missouri Western State University, home of the Griffons. Exactly what is a griffon? We did not know either so we asked Google, which says a griffon is "a large Old World vulture with predominantly pale brown plumage." Maybe it tastes like chicken?
Dallas Cowboys - Oxnard, CA
Yes, the Dallas Cowboys pack up all their gear and travel 1,450 miles to a suburb of Los Angeles for training camp. The question is...why? Possibly for Oxnard's famously awesome strawberries.
Chicago Bears - Bourbonnais, IL
The village is named after Francois Bourbonnais, Sr., a fur trapper, hunter and agent of the American Fur Company, who married a Native American woman and settled in the area near the fork of two major Indian trails and the Kankakee River circa 1830. Now you know.
