Throwback Thursday - Walter Payton

You know that if your nickname is "Sweetness," you must be pretty great. Walter Payton was sweetness.

Playing RB for the Chicago Bears, Payton ran like no one before him and no one since. He was fast and ran like a gazelle, but he was also tough as nails and hit linebackers like a bison.

He was a nine-time Pro Bowler and retired holding the NFL records for most career rushing yards, touchdowns, carries, yards from scrimmage, and all-purpose yards.

When he wasn't running the ball, you might see him throwing it. Payton's eight career touchdown passes are an NFL record for non-quarterbacks.

Sweetness won two NFL Most Valuable Player Awards and won Super Bowl XX with the 1985 Chicago Bears. He was elected into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1993.

He was also simply a good dude who cared about kids. Peyton formed the Halas Payton Foundation in 1988 to help inner-city kids in the Chicago area and later established the Walter Payton Foundation, also dedicated to helping young people in the state of Illinois. Sweet.

What else was happening the 1993?

The Dallas Cowboys routed the Buffalo Bills 52-17 in Super Bowl XXVII.

Unforgiven won the Oscar for Best Picture.

Bill Clinton was elected the 42nd President of the United States.

Jurassic Park was the top-grossing movie of the year.

Popular TV Shows: Home Improvement, Seinfeld and Roseanne.
