Team Rice scored the winning TD with just 41 seconds left in the game, defeating Team Sanders 22-21 in the first unconferenced Pro Bowl in NFL history.
This year’s Pro Bowl was unlike any that had come before it. AFC/NFC designations were replaced by the names of two Pro Football Hall Of Fame team captains, Deion Sanders and Jerry Rice. New rules were employed and both teams wore cool new uniforms.
What didn’t change was that the best NFL players were all on the field together having a blast! Team Sanders took the early 7-0 lead when Andrew Luck connected with DeSean Jackson for a 36-yard scoring strike.
New Orleans Saints teammates Drew Brees and Jimmy Graham tied things up with an 8-yard scoring pass in the second quarter. After a TD run from Cam Newton, and then a Philip Rivers to Josh Gordon 10-yard TD pass, the teams went into halftime tied 14-14.
When Nick Foles found Jordan Cameron for a 12-yard score, it looked like Team Sanders would taste sweet Hawaiian victory. But Kansas City QB Alex Smith engineered the thrilling comeback hitting DeMarco Murray for the game-winner.
Nick Foles of the Philadelphia Eagles was named offensive MVP and Derrick Johnson of the Kansas City Chiefs was named defensive MVP.
