Last season was about rookies in the spotlight and some broken records. But how will these players perform this season? In Cam Newton's rookie year he was great, but last season he had a sophomore slump. Can last year's rookies avoid the sophomore slump?
Another question is how will Cam Newton do in his 3rd season? He was a stud after only playing one full season at Auburn and winning the national championship. That's why the Panthers drafted him number #1 overall in the 2011 NFL draft. He was expected to be the franchise quarterback.
In his first game of the 2011-2012 season he broke a single game record by throwing for 422 yards, breaking Peyton Manning's opening day record. In his second game of that season he broke his own record by throwing for 432 yards. Newton had the most combined passing yards by a rookie in two games with 854 yards, breaking Kurt Warner's record. He also is the only quarterback to start his first two games with consecutive 400+ passing yards and broke Steve Beurlien's franchise record of 547 passing yards.
That year he finished with 4,051 passing yards, 21 touchdowns, 17 interceptions with 60% of his passes completed. Then in the 2012-13 season he had a disappointing sophomore slump with 3,869 yards, 19 touchdowns,12 interceptions with 57.7% of his passes completed.
The numbers may look good but he didn't play well in the beginning of the season. Cam picked up his game in the 2nd half, but it was too late to make the playoffs. I think he'll post 4,014 passing yards, 24 touchdowns and 15 interceptions and 61% of his passes completed. It will be interesting to see what Superman will do in 2013.
