Kid Reporter: Feeling Blue

After an 0-6 start this season the Giants looked helpless. Even after finishing the remainder of the season at 7-3 it was not enough to propel them into the playoffs. Going into the offseason there are lots of questions that need to be answered. Among them are, who will be the new offensive coordinator, what positions should be addressed in the draft, and what free agents should be resigned.

The Giants offense was terrible this year, leading to the resignation of offensive coordinator Kevin Gilbride, who helped guide the offense to 2 Superbowls. Four names that have been thrown around as the new offensive coordinator are Mike Sullivan, the form Buccaneers Offensive coordinator. John McNulty, the former Buccaneers Quarterback coach. Eric Studesville, the Broncos running backs coach and Pete Carmichael Jr., the Saints offensive coordinator.

Whoever the new offensive coordinator is, there are still many holes that General Manager Jerry Reece and Coach Tom Coughlin need to fill on offense. The three biggest areas of concern the offensive line, the running backs, and wether to resign free agent wide receiver Hakeem Nicks. The offensive line was terrible this year, and Eli Manning had his worst season since his rookie year. He threw a league leading 27 interceptions, and although many were his fault, he was constantly under pressure due to an aging offensive line. In my opinion the Giants need to get stronger on the offensive line.

At running back, David Wilson is quesiontable due to his neck injury and fumbles. Andre Brown is an average running back, but average running backs are all over this league. This year Maurice Jones Drew will be a free agent. He could be the long term solution.

With the rising stars of Rueben Randle and Jerrel Jernigan at wide receiver you have to question wether you resign free agent Hakeem Nicks. Nicks is coming off his worst season with 0 touchdowns. I think the Giants should sign Nicks and keep grooming Jernigan and Randall.

The last question is will free agent Justin Tuck return to the Giants. After a slow start, Tuck led the Giants with 11 sacks. After 9 years many people think he is slowing down, and the defensive line needs to be rebuilt.

It will be a busy offseason for the Giants and it will be interesting to see how it pans out.
