Many experts think that former University of South Carolina defensive end Jadeveon Clowney will be the first player taken in this year NFL Draft. He's big, strong and agile, and seems destined to be a Pro Bowl-caliber defensive force for years to come.
There's no way Jadeveon could be a bust, could he?
There’s a large number of scouts and draft “experts” who have serious doubts about Clowney. They see him as being too risky, and some have outright called him a possible bust.
How can people have such a wide array of opinions on the same player?
To answer that you need to travel back to Clowney’s sophomore year where he basically set the world on fire. He piled up 13 sacks and 23.5 tackles for losses all while simply overpowering helpless defenders.
So, what’s wrong with that?
Well, during his junior year his production dipped a bit.
Depending on whom you believe, this was due to opposing teams double and triple teaming him, nagging injuries, or the fact he knew he was going to be draft first and just coasted through the year.
With the NFL Draft rapidly approaching and the Houston Texans holding the first pick, they need to decide is he’s the second coming of LT, or just another flash in the pan who will sink in the harsh light of the NFL season.
