Week 12

<< previous week   next week >>

Each week, while two teams compete on the field during NFL Network's Thursday Night Football matchup, two deserving youth health and fitness projects from the corresponding cities will face off here in the NFL PLAY 60 DonorsChoose.org Showdown.

Based on fan votes, NFL PLAY 60 will fully fund the winning project, while the other project will get 50% funding towards its goal. Vote now!

Healthy Bodies, Healthy Minds! Outdoor Equipment for Kinders
City:  Metairie, LA
School:  Marie Riviere Metairie, LA Elementary School
Teacher:  Ms. Bergeron

My students need:

My students need a set of balls and an Active Play Kid to make their recess minutes count. After a long day of learning, my kids need a break. While we are lucky enough to be at a school that allows recess, our outdoor equipment is lacking. The cones, hula hoops, jump ropes and playground balls included in the Active Play Kit will give us the opportunity to use this time to develop our muscle strength, coordination, and flexibility.

Flying High In Adapted PE
City: College Park, GA
School Camp Creek Middle School
Teacher Ms. Moore

My students need:

I teach students with severe and profound physical and mental limitations such as students in wheelchairs that can only move a couple of fingers to students that are athletic physically, but struggle mentally and emotionally. Unfortunately, we do not have enough PE equipment for all of them to participate in the same activities simultaneously. I have requested some new PE resources to introduce different sports and games in hopes of piquing their interests in organized sports and testing their physical abilities. These new PE tools will allow me to encourage each student to engage in their own physical fitness.
