MADE TO BE BROKEN

NFL players have a long-standing history of shattering seemingly unbreakable records. In a league where every year is a golden year, records are always being approached, broken, shattered and destroyed.

Remember when Seattle Seahawks running back, Shaun Alexander, set the single season mark for most touchdowns in the NFL with 28? Don't bother trying to dig that one up. The very next year, LaDainian Tomlinson smashed that record by scoring 31 touchdowns!

What about Miami Dolphins Hall of Fame quarterback, Dan Marino's record for 48 touchdown passes in a season, a record many said could never be broken. Enter Indianapolis Colt, Peyton Manning. In 2004, he did Marino one better by throwing 49 touchdown passes!

With the 2007 season upon us, even more records could fall. With just an average year by their standards, both Shaun Alexander and LaDainian Tomlinson could become one of the top 20 rushing yard leaders and one of the top five rushing touchdown leaders of all time. With another nine catches, Colts wide receiver, Marvin Harrison, will take the number two spot on the all-time receiving touchdowns list. Green Bay Packer, Brett Favre, with each game continues his unbelievable streak of consecutive games started for a quarterback.

But what makes the NFL so much fun to watch is that, on any given Sunday, during any single game, any game record can be challenged and broken. Put the right wind at a kicker's back and the 63-yard field goal record could fall. Give a cornerback the right offense and he could quickly have the NFL record five interceptions in a game. A few key blocks and the longest kickoff return of 106 yards might be eclipsed.

So, this season, grab your friends and your favorite chair and be prepared to watch as football history is made again and again.
