Shaun Philips Holds Harry Upside-Down!

Shaun Phillips

Last week I got to go to NFL 101/201 at the Coliseum in Los Angeles. It was a very fun event and I got to meet lots of players and do football activities. I even got to hold two different Super Bowl rings.

I got to meet Joe Theisman who played for the Washington Redskins. He won one Super Bowl and played in another. He was very nice to talk to. His favorite player growing up was Joe Namath and today it is Tom Brady. It is pretty cool since Tom Brady is my favorite player as well. I also got to meet Trent Dilfer who won a Super Bowl with the Baltimore Ravens. He was very nice to meet and he even let me hold his Super Bowl ring. You wouldn't believe how heavy it is. I hope to have one of my own one day! I also got to meet Jordan and Carson Palmer of the Cincinnati Bengals. They are on the only brothers to ever play quarterback together on the same team. They were very funny and teased each other just like my brother and I do. I asked them both what it was like playing on the same team as their brother. They both said it was cool and a lot of fun.

I met Shaun Philips who is the linebacker for the San Diego Chargers. He was very funny and when I took a picture with him he picked me up and turned me upside down.

As part of the event I got to go into the locker room at the Coliseum and meet Gordon Batty. He is the equipment manager for the Green Bay Packers. He set up a bunch of equipment from several NFL players in the lockers and I got to try on Tom Brady's shoulder pads. I also tried on Aaron Rodger's helmet and pads. They were very heavy. In the locker room I even got to learn about how a football is made.

I also got to hang out with and talk to Mike Pereira who is in charge of all the NFL officials. He talked about all the upcoming rules changes for the new season. There will be new things to learn and watch for this season.

I also got to meet some cheerleaders from the Oakland Raiders and San Diego Chargers. They were very nice and had big smiles.

Another part of NFL 101/201 was the skills competitions. I got to try kicking field goals and extra points. They are harder than they look. I even tried to catch a ball from a machine. Those balls came very fast and were hard to catch. Calvin Sweeney who played for the Pittsburgh Steelers was helping to teach us how to catch. Michael Young who played for the Denver Broncos and worked for them too was teaching how to run patterns. He let me hold his Super Bowl ring too. That was very cool.

It was an exciting day and I was glad to be able to attend it.
